FAQ

How is culture expressed through food?
Culture itself is a widely expressive set of ideals that a group of people, with shared beliefs, show through their way of life. This expression can be shown in a multitude of ways such as clothing, language, music, and of course food. Food is a source of cultural expression due to the differences in the cultural preparation of foods along with the ingredients used in such foods.

What is Food Stress?
Food Stress is the fear to express or enjoy a cuisine due to the regional disconnect or seemly odd nature of such cuisines. This commonly occurs with the children of parents that moved to another country and have had a disconnect from their original culture, which their parents have grown up with. The real-world view of food stress can be hard to obverse as a person dealing with food stress is of course less likely to express their own culture.

How many cultures will be presented?
As of the moment, the project has four separate events planned, with each having two cultures expressed in some form of cuisine. This means that at least eight cultures will be expressed via cultural cuisines, but this doesn't limit the number of cultural expressions to eight, as the events may have different forms of cultural expression such as music or historical facts.

What are the benefits of learning about different cultures?
Learning about different cultures helps widen the sense of thought on world knowledge, and helps maintain some connection of ideas when discussing world events. For example, in the U.S. we often see news of international countries that have different cultures and base our understanding of that culture on the news article that goes over their culture.
