What is Project: 1GEN?
Project: 1GEN is a student organization catered to first-generation students at Spartanburg Methodist College. As a first-generation student, I was not very aware of what that meant back in my first year of college.
What is a first-generation student? This would be a student who is the first in their nuclear family to attend college. That means your parent or guardian never attended or did not complete their degree.

Preparation
At Project: 1GEN, we believe that students enter the real world when they start their college journey. Therefore, we are providing professional guidance for their career, and academic guidance for their education, especially if they pursue graduate school later down the road.
​
A few of the events that students will get to experience are networking sessions, college workshops, and being paired with a mentor in the student's desired or related field.
​
We also encourage students to get involved with more activities on campus and make those connections and relationships. Overall, the more quality experience that is gained, the better the college life will be.
